The CEO of Kuwait Oil Company Hashem Hashem declared having discovered 4 oil fields and two new reservoirs in the North and West of the country confirming that this shall promote the position of Kuwait as a producing country in the international markets.
Hashem declared in a statement to Kuwait News Agency that this accomplishment occurred after the discovery operations carried out by the Company during the last 2 years and was declared today after verifying the positive results thereof.
He also stated that the Company was able to carry on its work despite the challenges confronted by it especially during the last year that witnessed a severe decrease in the oil prices and resulted in the loss of the barrel of half of its price.
Hashem declared that the features of these discoveries that were found in many regions in the Kuwait give a proof that these regions are promising and that will be developed and it will be producing shortly.
He also clarified that these discoveries will have an important role in preserving the position of Kuwait to stay in the forefront of the oil producing countries which promotes its special position in the oil reserves.
Hashem stated also that the new discoveries include discoveries in the West of Kuwait where three fields were discovered in the North of Manakish field in (Kabed, Umm Rous and Raska) and light oil of high quality according to the crude oil measurement unit was discovered in Kabed fields (AbA 41), Umm Al Rous (ABA 42) and Raksa (ABA 46) was discovered in the Marat Jurrasic Layer.
It was mentioned that this discovery added a new dimension for the oil reserve of the countries of the West of Kuwait which shows the existence of a new additional stock of oil and gas showing that the results of the preliminary tests showed more capacity to produce light oil and gas that have a long-term positive effect on the plans of Kuwait Oil Company.
Hashem added that non-traditional new reservoirs were discovered in the North of Kuwait in Al Rawdatain and Umm Al Naka fields stating that light oil was discovered (for the first time in Kuwait) of high quality according to the crude oil measurement unit (ABA 41) from the cotton layer in Al Rawdatain field in the North of Kuwait through the exploratory well (RA 484 rw2) and characterized by high pressure and difficulty of drilling, testing and developing.
He also confirmed that the preliminary analysis and tests of this layer shows that it contains big quantities of oil and gas. And concerning the other discoveries, Hashem stated that there is a promising discovery of Fares reservoir in Umm Al Naka field stating that this reservoir is characterized by huge reserves of heavy oil (ABI 18) that may be developed and produced in traditional ways and the preliminary results of the discovered wells showed the existence of confirmed commercial huge qualities.
Hashem also stated that light oil of high quality according to the crude oil measurement unit (ABI 40) was discovered in the Ratawi calcareous layer clarifying that the preliminary oil reserves of such discovery shows the existence of huge commercial quantities, in addition to having a strategic dimension that shows the existence of other new reservoirs in the region.
He clarified that such discoveries enrich the Kuwaiti oil reserve and allow Kuwait to carry on the production of crude oil for future contracts and towards achieving the Company’s 2030 strategic goals and promoting the position of Kuwait on the international level such as producing crude oil and providing and supporting the local consumption.
